Inspiration...

Chuck Close is one of my favorite artist. I love the idea of a picture within a picture. From afar, his work shows brilliantly captured details of people in their painted portraits. Once you get up close, all you see is a n array of colors and shapes. His work is amazing to me.

Gerhard Richter is one of my favorite abstract artist. He is by no means afraid of color and I find so much beauty in the technique he uses to create these enormous master pieces full of lines, streaks, and blots of paint.

I was just introduced to Dana Tanamachi last year by another design friend of mine. She is AMAZING at chalk art and typography. Below are just a few works from her large portfolio. I love that she was able to apply her style into the 2013 Nike Women's campaign, design the cover of Oprah's magazine and so much more. She took what you would most often find in sketchbooks or in front of stores that embrace chalk art and introduced it to the world of graphic design.

Photography is also another huge inspiration of mine. I love capturing moments with a camera. I also posted the below images because I have a huge passion for dance. I've been dancing since I was three and now I teach. I think my obsession with this art form sometimes carries over into my design work in terms of clean lines, negative space, and elegance.

2014 Graphic Design Trends

Here Symbol

This trend I have noticed around quite often. Not really sure  how to explain it, but to me, it seems very related to this day and age where technology is constantly advancing. GPS symbols and even text lingo is a huge fad currently so it is not surprising to see them used in design concepts.

Banners

The idea of the banner is also a trend that seems to have reappeared. I personally don't care for it too much outside of when I REALLY feel it is appropriate or necessary (but then again, who defines when things are necessary?) but it is interesting to see a traditional style re-designed with a modern twist. This trend and the one below reminds me of the first styles of advertising making a comeback.

Badges

Unlike the banner above, I really love the traditional/vintage badge trend. I haven't designed anything recently that reflected this style but I would love to and look forward to trying it out for myself. The vintage style with a modern take on it, for the most part, always looks for clean and is a great use of  type and design in a confined space.

Photographs + Type

This trend I think I have always gravitated towards. I even recently have done a lot of work in this style. It almost always looks great aesthetically and the type on top of a background image is just such a clean look to me. Plus, I love photography and am now falling in love with type the more I explore it, so combining them together equates to heaven for me right.

Alternate Selfie Images

Disclaimer | I promise I had clothes on, I only exposed my shoulders to somewhat take a picture that reflected me being completely candid, open to receive all knowledge that I can in this new journey I am embarking, beginning the Graphic Design program at GSU
